We have tried our best to provide you with the most comprehensive list of items that can be recycled but if in doubt look for either of the below logos on products and when you see them in stores…buy them!
If products are not labeled these are some items that CAN be recycled
Cool drink bottles, peanut butter containers, mineral water bottles, cooking oil containers, some clear packaging boxes (Strawberries, grapes etc) washing liquid bottles, mouthwash bottles, salad dressing bottles, microwavable prepared food trays, milk bottles, fabric softener containers some shampoo and conditioner bottles, milk, water, juice, cosmetic, shampoo, dish and laundry detergent bottles, yogurt and margarine tubs, cereal box liners, grocery, refuse and shopping bags. Frozen vegetable bags, soft squeezable bottles, sandwich bags, sweet packets, cellophane, bubble wrap, bottle caps, yoghurt tubs, The Recycling Box fabric, Pick n Pay and Woolworths Green bags, Polystyrene including: food packaging, vending cups, salad containers, egg trays, meat trays, and takeaway boxes. Retail coat hangers, toothbrush handles, and combs, tupperware
Do NOT recycle: Soiled cling wrap, Sticky tape
Any of the following items: drinking glasses, windowpane glass, spice bottles, beer, wine and spirit bottles, make up containers, jam jars, cool drink bottles, perfume bottles, fruit and vegetable jars, oil and vinegar bottles
Remember to remove the labels
Do NOT recycle: china, porcelain, ceramics, pyrex or cooking ware, crystal, windshields, clay pots, light bulbs / florescent tubes, “heat treated” (Pyrex) containers and ovenware.
Any of the following items: cool drink Cans, food tins, pie pans, tin-foil, foil food containers, window frames, aerosol cans, bottle tops, lids, oil cans, paint tins, nuts & bolts
Please rinse out all containers and remove labels to preserve the quality of the items so that they CAN be recycled.
Any of the following items: office & typing paper, envelopes, faxes, printouts, junk mail, notes, till slips, cereal boxes, medicine boxes, tissue boxes, clothing tags, cards, magazines, flyers, pamphlets, brochures, catalogues, calendars, phonebooks, newspapers, egg cartons, toilet paper inners, roller towel inners, wrapping paper, cardboard boxes, corrugated cardboard
Do NOT recycle: plastic coated paper, tissues, serviettes , nappies, wax Paper
- Juice and long life milk boxes
- Tetrapak has a low carbon footprint but again extensive recycling facilities are not available, check the “find a drop off centre” Batteries, light bulbs, and printer cartridges
Batteries, light bulbs, and printer cartridges must not be mixed with the above recycling items and in most cases drop off centres do not provide recycling facilities for these items.
- Selected Pick n Pay stores provide recycling facilities for all of these so take them with you on your next shop!
